moonpressure

my dreams have been vivid and strange for the past couple weeks

lace
lots of dogs
deer climbing trees

i am with an old friend
he chooses to go home and eat fast food
instead of hang out with me
i don't want to be alone
he chomps away at his burger
ignoring me

i pack lace bras into a paper bag

There are deer climbing around in the tree tops
"Why are there deer in the trees? They can't climb trees!"

took the kayak out for a harvest moon cruise
one last paddle before we shove it under the house for the winter

two leopard seals rest on the rock island
their eyes follow us
but can't be bothered to get up
gorgeous spotted sausage bodies
black soft eyes

the water is smooth

perfect air

welcome autumn

Big Boots

A friend of mine has breast cancer. She is a young mother of two adorable babes.

You know how life can flow around and sometimes cause you to loose track of friends along the way? I lost track of Karma. I haven?t hung out with her for years now, but I came across a site on Facebook called TEAM KARMA, opened it up and learned about her condition. I was shocked because Karma must be one of the healthiest people I have ever met ever.

I have two memories of Karma that, to me, describe what a special person she is. First was when she commissioned a painting from me to give her fiancé Trevor as a wedding gift. I was a fairly insecure artist and had never been commissioned before. I created a painting for her that she loved and it went on to adorn the wedding invite and wine labels. This project made me feel special and gave me the confidence I needed.

When Karma was planning her wedding she wanted very much to include her friends and family in the creative process, to make it an inclusive community event. She came to me and asked if I would sing at the wedding and I delightfully declined. I happen to know about 11 songs mostly by Gillian Welch and if I ever sang them I was drunk at a party or alone at my house. She seemed fine about me turning her offer down, but a few weeks later she asked me again. I declined. She asked me a third time and I think this is when I said yes. I performed with a friend at her wedding and it is a special memory that I cherish.

Karma got me out of my shell and appreciated my gifts/talents and I will never forget her for that.

Karma supports others and I would like to return her support by running for her awesome team at the Breast Cancer Run for the Cure event.

Please support me in my fundraising efforts to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and education awareness programs.

Each year, thousands of Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life unite to participate in the Run. Their reasons for participating vary, but they all have the same goal; to create a future without breast cancer.

oops

Hello Blog watchers. My name is Jen Dick and a couple of weeks ago Audra called me to ask if I'd like to guest blog for her starting Sept. 10th. Quite flattered and drunk I said yes of course I'd love to and then I promptly forgot as I told her about how I had spent the last month completing a very difficult puzzle only to find that one piece was missing. It was a da Vinci, not the Mona Liza but another famous lady. The one in brown, a sketch, and she is looking down with a thoughtful gaze. The funny thing is that she is looking directly at the piece that is missing.

I still haven't found the piece, or the culprit that took it. Anyhow, I had completely forgotten that I had some writing to do. Last week my internet went down and I didn't bother to go to the Library or visit a friend to check my email. I thought it would be a fun experiment to be internet free as long as it took telus to send me a new modem. I hated it. I love surfing the net. I love my email and checking out housing prices in my neighbourhood. Today I got the internet back and have I've been on-line for three hours straight and I'm even thinking of joining Face Book.

The first thing I did on the world wide web was to wade through my email. I saw one entitled "dead meat," a reminder that I was supposed to be blogging. Excited and anxious I rushed to complete my first blog and forgot to say who I was. So the man in the previous blog is my husband Cam and he has never made a pantry for Audra, although I think he has made her pasta.

Love Jen Dick

Tonight we are having pasta!

This is Cam. He likes headlamps a lot. He also likes wine and boats and giggling. When I am hungry he makes me homemade pasta. When I am tired he puts me to bed. When I am sad he tells bad jokes. When I have no place to put canned tomatoes he builds me a pantry. Sometimes he makes me mad but mostly I'm pretty lucky.

Whatif by Shel Silverstein

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow talle?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!

how many times? will we sit out on the pier trying to read a book in the dark wanting alone and those people keep putting their bags onto the bench
and they talk
french
Farsi

beige shoes shawl
underneath this platform is an animal
shaped like a star
long yellow arms
some alone
others huddled
cuddled
in little star groups
on the cold bottom

what i did get to read
said:
you are the unborn the undying i am
and when you forget and see only the back of the animal
pulling the plow across that field
and the grass cutting your feet makes you angry
go back to it

i followed him down the forest path to the place where he sits

salmon, otter, eagle
the seats are round stones with a wood-slice balancing on top

the river is loud from yesterdays rain

he smokes a pipe
and up jumps the Corgi onto my lap
her name is Robin (like a bird)

Bella steals my walking stick and chews it's end

there is a green insect crawling up my leg
pine cone petal body

i started to rebuilt the tee-pee
balancing three branches together first
then adding more to all sides

the wind will get it this time I'm sure
